What is the purpose of the RO-DBT Process Group?
The central focus of the skills taught in RO-DBT are to help clients "build a life worth sharing." Therefore, the RO-DBT Process Groups are designed for clients who wish to receive feedback, encouragement, and place to build relationships with others in the group. The group time emphasizes relationship building skills taught in RO-DBT such as being open-minded, flexible, and vulnerable with other group members.
Similarly to the DBT Advanced Groups, this group is designed for clients who value receiving long term therapy but with a low level of care, as this group only meets for one hour every other week.
The purpose of this group to enhance RO-DBT skill application in daily life situations and in relationships. Supplemental material is given in the group to help clients gain awareness on how to go deeper with skill application and become more mindful of over-controlled tendencies and rigid thinking patterns and instead to focus more on core learning concepts such as learning to try new things to learn and grow, practicing flexible thinking, and learning to relax and play.

Personally, I have seen how these process groups really possess a sense of comradery and cohesiveness. Clients really get to know each other over a period of time and receive the benefits of receiving encouragement and support from others.

The RO-DBT Process Group is a good fit for clients who have graduated the RO-DBT Skills group, who want to continue gaining confidence in their use of skills, and have a desire to learn from others in a group setting.
