Meet Jennifer Wu, LCSW

I am not a "talk therapist" (where you talk, I only listen).   The style of therapy I provide clients is skill based.  You can expect for me to give you feedback and coaching in sessions to help you connect your stressor to a new coping skill to try out.   Future sessions are then spent on you giving me feedback on how your coping skills worked and we troubleshoot from there.   By the time they leave therapy, clients report enhanced confidence in their use of coping skills.  

 

The process of therapy can help you work through the issues that are keeping you stuck. I work with clients who deal with depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, addictions, anger issues, and relationship tensions.

DBT Therapy focuses on coping skills to better manage these symptoms which can help you build a life worth living.

I am the only DBT Therapist in Austin, TX providing DBT Advanced groups which are graduate level DBT Skills groups allowing clients to receive coaching on how to apply a combination of DBT skills to every day life issues in a smaller group setting.

Individual Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and insight-oriented therapy are approaches used to help clients work through past and present issues. At the beginning of treatment, it is recommend that clients come once a week in order to build the relationship and develop momentum in working through issues.  Note:  DBT treatment has proven to be most effective when clients attend a DBT Skills group and supplement with individual therapy as needed.    

Fee: $175/session (45 minutes)

For effective DBT group treatment, it is recommended that clients attend group for at least 8-12 months in order to gain confidence in practicing and implementing new behavioral skills in their natural environment. DBT skills are taught to help clients become more aware and mindful, improve interpersonal relationships, increase ability to understand and manage painful emotions, and tolerate emotions without engaging in self-harm behaviors. 

Fee: $75/group (90 minutes)

RODBT Skills Group

For group members who struggle with excessive self-control and over-control tendencies which can be exhibited by rule-governed behaviors, social anxiety, perfectionism, high social comparisons, envy/bitterness and obsessive/compulsive disorders.  This is for clients who have already completed 8 months of standard DBT skills training and want to focus on targeting their specific over-control tendencies.

Fee: $75/group (90 minutes)

DBT Advanced Group

Designed for group members who have already completed 8 months of skills training and desire to use the twice-a-month advance group to continue momentum in skills application.  Coaching from the therapist and interactive feedback from other group members assist the client in sharpening their skill usage and working through current stressors. Curriculum is developed by Jennifer Wu and coaches clients on using a combination of DBT skills for everyday hot topics. Please see dbtdaily.com for more information. 

Fee: $75/group (60 minutes)

DBT Advanced Process Group

Designed for group members who have already completed 8 months of skills training and desire to use the twice-a-month advance group to continue momentum in skills application.  

 

Coaching from the therapist, a space to process and express emotions, and interactive feedback from other group members assist the client in sharpening their skill usage and working through current stressors. 

Fee: $75/group (60 minutes)

Couples Therapy

The focus of couples counseling is to work through issues such as conflict resolution, understanding dysfunctional communication patterns and develop healthier ways to relate and build trust.  DBT coping skills are utilized and modeled to give couples more effective ways to communicate and reduce conflict. 

Fee: $200/session (50 minutes)
